Got an interesting mail from Pokerstars today regarding the new rewards program. The new rewards program will launch during this summer, and it sounds pretty bad to me. I quote: "based on your previous play, you will likely be significantly impacted by the new changes. We cannot give you an exact figure, but in the most extreme cases some players will receive up to 85% less than under the previous program". Yikes! What do you guys feel about this?

Everytime new reward program comes its bad for players more or less. But seems like this might be similar to what 888poker did. Have not received any email myself but have not played much in stars anyway.

But even more reason to stay away from stars if they make rb even worse imo.

Uargh...got the same email, sounds amazingly bad. Didn't know their changes would be that big (since they just did this BS last year with steps and SNE). Well, I will grind it until Summer and then reevaluate.

Not sure if you can compare the games that you are playing to the games that are running on MPN , but I used the RedKings promotion from the forum here and I get 30% rakeback flat.

No matter volume or game type. It's just a button, for every 3€ rake I get 1$ RB (making it less than 33% RB) - which I can click at any point, as long I don't wait for months because then they expire or something.

No goals to chase, no pressure unless you do it to yourself, no hoarding to get better cash exchange rates...very relaxing and the 30% aren't too shabby, afaik it's like Supernova on Stars.

All those loyalty programs feel like these special mobile phone plans - where they make you jump through hoops to get a slightly better deal, like "it's cheaper after 22:00, but not if it's a weekday, but if you are near your home it's free, but the internet speed might be slow depending on your monthly volume, but you can always use the hotspots for free - but then you have to share your home line with somebody else who might be torrenting but that's not our fault...blablabla" and a dozen other tripwires to screw the customer out of his advantages. No thanks. So therefore I appreciate the "fair deal" that I get on RK/MPN.

Hard to say at this point, but which games will these changes hurt the most? I'm thinking
    1: Fifty50s
    2: Hypers
    3: 6-max
    4: 9-max
    5: 18-men

I think it's worst for short fast formats with small edges, turns it into roulette essentially. And sucks if rakeback is a big part of your income aswell. I think MTT side will probably die last.

As a low stackes player I probably won't get hurt the most from the Pokerstars changes, but I'm already trying to look ahead and checking out other sites. If I switch sites, I want to take advantage of a first deposit bonus. That leaves out PartyPoker, which I played on long time ago. 888 is an option, but I'm kinda worried about what seems to be a ton of negative reviews of the site. And I don't know if there are other games than stts, DoN, mtts and cash? RedKings is another, but traffic seems really low, and I can't seem to find other games than on 888? Pokerstars has gotten too big, has the best games, best software, most traffic etc. Want to make a stand and leave if rake gets worse, but I don't know...

They are basically raising the rake by eleminating SN rakeback. 30% of the SN players could leave and it would still be profitable for them.

Money grab, plain and simple. And of course those regs will try to beat the games without RB, hoping lots of tough competition will leave - while obviously the toughest competition will stay. Hard times for online poker.

So basically it will follow stars way of adding lottery everywhere. Most likely average rakeback will be way lower than before but if one gets lucky its another story. That at least how it seems to me.

It seems to be attractive towards recreational players, which is good imo. Have to wait and see what the actual rakeback will be before commenting on that I guess (though not looking promising).

Have to wonder what would stars lose by giving players the option to choose just getting payouts in EV without forcing lottery? Well I guess the answer to that is when players get paid things like tournament tickets they are forced to give some of it back to stars as rake again.

Im really very curius why other companies dont take the opportunity and make any descent reward program now when pokerstars makes one bad step after another in their rewards... Is it because all others waiting pokerstars to lower the rewards as much as they can so afterwards even a minor increase in rewards will be announced as a major change ??
888 cut almost all rewards some time ago. And i think all others copied the pokerstars model (zoom, spins etc). Its very strange

Party already stepped out. They're launching new rakeback program which virtually gives everyone 20-40% rakeback. Not huge step forward, but at least they didn't make it worse than their current program.

We are excited to announce that later this summer - as early as July - we will be launching Stars Rewards, our new rewards program. Stars Rewards offers an exciting, personalised gaming experience that rewards players for their real money play in poker, casino and sports (where available) so that you can make every game count.

With Stars Rewards you earn points that give you Chests filled with a variety of rewards personalised to the games you like to play. Every Chest offers you the chance at winning a big prize, and the more you play, the bigger the Chests you’ll receive. You can also earn double points via daily boosts. Here’s a glimpse at what it will look like.

From the launch of Stars Rewards, the rewards you receive will be based on the new mechanics of the program, and VIP statuses and the rewards associated with the current VIP Club program will be discontinued. You’ll receive the full prorated value of your current VIP Step when the new program launches.

We’ll be in touch soon with more news about how you can make the most of Stars Rewards.
    Regards,
    StarsAccount
